How to create an enabling environment for children (ELDA 1)

Well-Being: The key learning area for the development and learning of all babies’ toddlers and young children. Learning is individual to all children.  A holistic approach inclusive of physical skills, emotional skills, nutrition, health, and social skills are all part of the well-being ELDA.  Creating an enabling environment ensures that young children will explore and discover the indoor and outdoor environment.  Physical skills include gross and fine motor skills.  Gross motor skills are related to balance and postural control and is needed to develop functional skills through developing the fine muscles during fine motor skills.  Children need at least 30min of physical activity every day.

  • Includes the emotional, social as well as the physical aspects of children’s development.
  • Healthy, physical active and well-nourished children are motivated learners.
  • Well-being includes respect, safety, support, and exposure to stimulation at home and at school.  Hygiene and access to support and love are also included.
  • Well-being starts from conception and not from birth.
  • A child who does not have access to the abovementioned will not be able to handle or cope with the daily stresses and the demands of growing up.
